- Role played by the architecture:
The song talks mainly about the history of Madrid, however in the first stanza it mentions the gate of Alcala watching time go by. The song starts by talking about the history of the monument and the city. After that it mentions the king Carlos III who was the one who ordered la puerta. The third stanza talks about the battle of Madrid and after that it alludes to Franco’s dictatorship.
The Puerta de Alcala was built in 1788 as one of the five royal gates that gave access to Madrid . Since then, it has remained as a historical monument that has been in important events such as the second republic or even the Franco dictatorship. That’s why is important for the song. The song talks about the history of the city and the feeling of what Madrid is, but the most important part is that la Puerta de Alcala has always been there, making it part of the history and a big part of the city
- Critical opinion
La Puerta de Alcalá its a world heritage which means that is a important building. I’ve seen it twice and I can say that is a majestic building.
The song portrays well what the building means to the history of Madrid and Spain in general. Its also a catchy song
